Subject:

Struggle, Yes! But how? -- Lessons of the struggle against pensions reform in France

Introduction:

This Fall saw the working class in France continue its struggle against the government's attempt to reform the retirement system. Not only were there massive demonstrations of millions of workers, unemployed and students -- with strikes in several sectors -- but general assemblies also appeared where important questions were discussed. How to we take the struggles into our own hands? Why do the unions keep dragging us out onto these demonstrations? Are the fuel blockades working?

While the movement seems to have died down and the French government has largely got its way over the reforms, the working class faces the same reality of austerity attacks the world over. So, the experience and lessons of the protests and strikes in Europe are important for workers in the US to reflect on.

At this public form there will be a short presentation from the ICC followed by several hours of open discussion. All are welcome.
