In 1991, in response to the collapse of the eastern bloc and the war in the Gulf, the ICC wrote: “faced with the tendency towards generalized chaos which is specific to decomposition and which has been considerably accelerated by the Eastern bloc's collapse, capitalism has no other way out in its attempt to hold together its different components than to impose the iron strait-jacket of military force. In this sense, the methods it uses to try to contain an increasingly bloody state of chaos are themselves a factor in the aggravation of military barbarism into which capitalism is plunging”. The US attack on Venezuela, the mounting threat to annex Greenland and to once again launch air strikes against the regime in Tehran confirm in particular that it is the world’s strongest power that has become the main factor in the acceleration of chaos and disintegration, a process which bears with it the threat of the destruction of humanity.
The ICC is calling a public meeting to discuss the implications of these developments. We aim to go deeper into the evolution of imperialist conflicts, but also aim to pose questions about the impact of these events on the class struggle, and what should be the response of the internationalist minority faced with the “aggravation of military barbarism into which capitalism is plunging”.
