'Arabic' spring in Bangladesh?

Hi,

I just found this article on Al Jazeera:

http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2013/02/20132191312685574.html

My impression is that many currents are active in this seemingly broad mass movement. This could indeed be comparable to the protest movement(s) in North Africa and the Middle East.

Does someone know more about it?

deep flaws.....

This article in the Observer today shows the deep flaws in this movement. No doubt there are all kinds of reasons for the discontent but the protests' focus on the death penalty for (Islamist) opposition figures blocks any possibility of the movement becoming one against the state. The article also suggests the false politicisation of the protest serves to distract attention from the awful state of the Bangladeshi economy (and thus the conditions facing the working class)

State Murder

If this is true, its the second "movement" in the last several months where the call for the state to kill people has been paramount (the protests over the brutal rape on the Indian bus being the other). Then again, calls for Mubarak to hang were not uncommon during the Arab spring. While the protestors may be motivated by legitimate anger over real issues, a movement that begins by proposing state murder is clearly problematic and rather disquieting.
